Since 1950, over 5.8 billion tonnes of plastic waste have been produced. Despite being the third most manufactured product in the world, recent studies show that society only recycles around 9% of this waste. As plastics are readily used for manufacturing small household appliances and other new products, we encourage you to contribute to the circular economy by ensuring that you separate these items when disposing of them.
Upon collection, your plastic is taken to a local recycling facility where it’s sorted, cleaned, shredded. It’s then turned into granular pellets for further reuse in the manufacture of new plastic products. Some plastics are transformed into outdoor furniture, plant pots and even clothing. Producing plastics from recycled materials saves approximately 88% of the energy required to make plastic from oil and gas.
